All the latest technological advances that are designed to make our job easier consequently can cause a bottleneck of information between the field and the office. Information programs that ease are jobs are out there; Live Drawings, 3/4d models and countless apps are phenomenal tools, giving us the power of real time information, stunning visuals or tools simply making our jobs easier. However, if we don’t supply the proper tools to utilize this information, it can create a major bottleneck. Referring to having the proper apps and tablets for the foreman, so they can process the information they way it was intended, not looking at their phone of a snapshot they took in the office. Therefore, why would should our leaders walk all the way back to the office to gather information? Are there saving’s by not buying the proper app? Or tablets for the field hands? How much money is being saved? Let’s ask ourselves this question: how much are we saving, by not supporting the field?
· If our foremen are to retrieve all the information from the office, which is a 15-minute route, and walks this six times a day equals three hours a day wasted on walking alone. How much is his time worth?
· What about the money neglected, due to rework, caused by not having up to date information, or due to the fact that they’ve already been to the trailer six times today, with a full plate a judgment call in the field as to avoid walking back to the office. Oppose thinking they are lazy, they had already walked to the office six times already and are working tirelessly to accomplish everything on their list, with little or no time to waste walking back to the office once again.
· What about the training? Technology is moving so rapidly, it’s difficult enough to keep pace with the technologies yesterday, further more the ones coming today and tomorrow will surely seal jeopardize their career, making them an inadequate leader in the future. If we want our foreman to be viable in the future, it’s a must to properly train them today keeping pace with technology.
