To set this tower crane base we need to layout form and pour piers to support the pedestal section of the tower crane base. The pedestal needs to be 24" below the top of footing and this footing was 48" thick so our piers were 24" tall. The bottom reinforcing ran through the piers. So our sequence was to form the footing, place the bottom reinforcing then layout, form and pour the piers before the top reinforcing was placed.
The Tower Crane pedestal and first section delivery was scheduled after there was proper cure time on the piers. The first tower section was delivered along with the pedestal section this helps to ensure the tower is plumb vs. just using the bottom two-foot pedestal to try and level.
First section rigged and ready to set. The guy wires were also attached while the tower section was on the truck, that way they could be installed easily from the ground allowing for a quick install.
Set the base on the piers and check for plumb and line. Then reinforcing per plan was added around the pedestal anchors and the top reinforcing was installed.
These guy-wires are used to help keep the tower section plumb. They were anchored to existing footings and concrete blocks on the sides with no existing footings. The cables attached to turnbuckles so that you have adjustment to plumb the tower section.
The tower section was checked with a total station and plumb bobs to ensure it was lined and plumb before, during and after the concrete was placed.
