As skill and talent grow, so does love for the job. The December spotlight knows this all to well. Starting from the bottom and quickly moving his way up the ladder, his passion for concrete and determination to excel has made him one of the best in the business. Meet this months spotlight, Michael Morrison.
My name is Michael Morrison. I have been working in concrete construction for the past 15 years. I started when I was about 18 as a laborer raking sidewalk. As time went on I learned how to do curb and gutter. And worked behind a curb machine. I began with a small company of only about 6 people. I remember using plastic and straw in the winter to cover sidewalk. And pulling it through the sub division. As the company grew, my talent grew with it. We began doing commercial projects with large floors. Such as the Megaplexs, private schools and colleges. I would hand rod large bays and power trowel color hardners in. Some pours being 24 hours long. As time went on I wanted to learn more aspects of concrete construction. I went to work for a company that was a custom home builder. Which gave me extensive knowledge in steps, porch caps, basements and understanding the importance of sub grade. I learned stamped concrete on a large scale, such as the intersections in Daybreak, and large custom driveways, patios, fire pits and concrete countertops. I learned acid staining, epoxy coatings and spray concrete coatings on pool decks. My beautiful wife and I have been flown out to Maui Hawaii, where I was to pour a driveway that was more like a road. I have poured parking lots, gas stations, and hospitals. I paved the I-15 core project in 2012. And poured the decks on many of our bridge structures.
I currently work for Wadsworth Brothers as a concrete finish foreman. I have been paving the point of the mountain project this year, where we were able to open up five lanes of traffic both directions for Thanksgiving. I run a 14 man crew on a 20 man paving spread. I work to provide the best possible product on our roads, with the lowest possible P.I.( profile index). Giving our families and the general public the smoothest ride for many years to come.
"Concrete has been very good to me and my family. It has taken me great places and I have been proud of the work that I have given Utah these past 15 years".
Michael is a true leader who inspires everyone around him to be the best they can be! We want to thank him again for letting us showcase his amazing work and for the contribution he makes to the industry in his leadership role.
