I want to introduce you to a special November spotlight Christian Heitert. Christian is an amazing person who wants and needs to be heard. I met Christian on linkedin during a group discussion which Christian had commented on. Reading through her post I could feel her passion, motivation and determination. I knew she could accomplish anything if given the chance. She is a charismatic girl that has a lot to say.
Meet The Woodworking Girl From Oklahoma
I believe one can't "dangle a carrot, beat a horse & expect long term positive results".
Proof is in the pudding. I can't get an interception if I am not allowed on the field thus the "put me in coach & watch me make a touchdown".
I don't sign up to fail & I don't enjoy just sitting on the bench, but life is tough so put on a helmet...
It's time I put my helmet back on & join a team with like minded thinkers, with people who don't just talk & want to go the extra mile with you & play as a team.
Once out of college, I started reading & studying business. If I went back, I would take business & marketing courses. I did not realize how into it or good at it I was till I was out. "How to Win Friends & Influence People" by Dale Carnegie was passed on to me by my mentor Chris Shoemake, along with the quote "The world is not gonna blow up today b/c it's already tomorrow in Australia"
I worked in a finish booth during Oklahoma summer. At least 6 months before an administrative position was open in the offices.
The previous girl in the position was bored & quit. I was not looking to stay, but the guys inside asked me if I would "help out" inside... and I got hooked.
I can't get an interception if I am not allowed on the field -put me in coach & watch me make a touchdown"
Alright, I am in!!! Back to working on projects nationwide bringing them in on time & under budget : ) If I need to go back to working in a finish booth sanding I am all in. I am not scared to work hard, I am more scared of people who won't. I love the hustle! Work hard, be honest, do your best provide quality work, gain respect & referral customers. Always be willing to help, and everything else will work its self out : )
The ones who teach me the "tricks of the trade" not short cuts, the ones who know the best way to get a job done with quality ,like when I was learning to hang and cope crown molding , that it was better to "fight it in the ground, than fight it in the air" are the ones that taught me to do quality work doing it the "right" way.
My biggest hurdle I think is myself, with a second being a 5'2 girl who works in a boys world.
My passion is for perfection & to excel. To prove beyond my appearance, I do know my business & I work to do my best in an industry where I don't look the part. I am a girl, I like my high heels but I also like my power tools & I am smart enough to know you don't use them at the same time.
I do feel as a girl I would be more excepted & given more chances with a shaved head and tattoos. I don't fit the mold in my appearance & have to work harder to prove what I have learned & what I know.
What are Christian's short term and long term goals
I would love some capital to buy & reduce residual property here in OKC & prove I can make positive ROI. Ever since I was in grade school I would tell me father (who is a big influence ) we should "buy houses & remodel them b/c we have better ideas "...
I could not drive yet & to my knowledge there was no such think as "flipping" yet.. Later when I got older by the end of high school & into college & HGTV started to feature shows about this I would say "they stole my idea "
To this day I find them hard to watch without getting very competitive watching them & think of ways I could do it better or get a bigger ROI e.g. like doing things myself without subbing them out.
I would also love now to have a millwork shop... I would love to buy my dad one fully equipped with CNCs beam saws edge banners & get back into architecture woodworking in the commercial construction arena.
I must say I miss the smell of saw dust as "dorky" as that may sound.
"Think and grow rich"-Napoleon Hill
I do have lot's to say. Just kind of starting up again back in these mediums. I want to achieve all I have the opportunity to! I don't sign up for what I can't do & I love to learn, grow & build relationships. I am small but like to play with the big dogs. I have found myself missing the commercial construction field.
Christian does it all, but her passion for finish carpentry is where she excels.
